Obituary of Walajean N. Saglett
On August 2, 2024, Wally peacefully passed away, at the age of 94, surrounded by her family and friends in Canandaigua, New York.
She was born to Walter and Norma Gifford on March 1, 1930, in Mayville, Michigan.
After graduating from Mayville Michigan High School, Wally continued her education journey to earn her degree from Saginaw General Hospital School of Nursing. Upon graduation, she showed her compassion for others as a Registered Nurse in Michigan and New York.
Wally's love for family and friends was immeasurable. Her close friendship with her brother Del, was a highlight of her life, talking on the phone every evening to reminisce and share passions in life. Wally's friends in the Canandaigua community knew her as the "Mayor of Stewart Place" because of her hospitable garage gatherings.
She loved spending time in the kitchen crafting delicious foods for others. Her passion for people and entertaining created an endless circle of friends, from dinner, book, and card clubs, to golfing, church, and civic organizations. As a member of the Thompson Hospital Guild and United Methodist Church, Wally's acts of serving others were boundless.
Wally was a skilled seamstress, avid gardener, and gifted painter. Her spectacular hand-painted China was sprinkled throughout her home, as well as the homes of her loved ones. Anyone who knew Wally received a beautifully handcrafted calligraphy card of sentiments from birthday wishes to a kind word for someone during a time of need. Her zest for life inspired her to travel throughout the 50 states and abroad, leaving a little bit of her generosity everywhere she visited.
