Obituary of Charles C. Peirce

Charles Condit Peirce Rochester, MA – Canandaigua, NY March 27, 1928 – August 6, 2023 Con was born 3/27/28 in Brockton, MA to Marian (Nevius) and Charles Clifford Peirce. He grew up in Rochester center and graduated from Wareham High School in 1945. He attended college on the GI Bill, serving in the Navy as WW2 came to a close. Con received his degree in engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1951 and married Betsy Lord a year later. His first job as an electrical engineer was with the Philco Corporation in Philadelphia. Soon after starting their family, Con and Betsy returned to Con's childhood home in Rochester, and he went to work for the Sippican Corporation in Marion. After retirement, he and Betsy wintered in North Port, FL. After 40 years in the wilderness, Con was led to the Christian faith by God's grace and mercy. He gave his life to Christ, was baptized, and became a member of Long Plain Baptist Church in Acushnet, MA serving as both Elder and Sunday School teacher. After relocating to Canandaigua in 2005, he joined Lifespring Community Church and enjoyed serving as a greeter and in the jail ministry. Con loved reading the Bible; imagining the lives of those he encountered there and applying its concepts to everyday life. Con was predeceased by his wife, Betsy Mae (Lord). He is survived by his sister, Hilda Nevius Peirce of Hingham, MA; a cousin, John Nevius of Onancock, VA; a nephew, Steven (Janet) Gourley of Brownfield, ME; and his four children and their spouses: Carrie Peirce and Steve Bieghler of Pomona, CA; Sharon (Peirce) and Patrick Cullinane of Farmington, NY; Charles Kevin and Diana (Schminke) Peirce of Bryan, TX; and Kate (Peirce) and Randall Ott of Shortsville, NY. In addition, he leaves seven grandchildren; Adrienne (Nevius) Heckman, John Benjamin Nevius, Kate (Nevius) Russell, Nathan Ott, Charles Andrew Peirce, Emily (Peirce) Moore, and Rebecca (Peirce) Elkins; and ten great grandchildren. Con is also survived by his loving and constant friend Martha Ashley. Con had an active imagination fueled by his childhood love of reading and listening to radio serials like The Lone Ranger and Flash Gordon. He enjoyed recounting his childhood adventures growing up in Rochester with his kids and grandkids who will remember him as the greatest storyteller. Tales were a mixture of humor, intrigue, cooperation, and fair play. Townspeople worked together to problem-solve and dragons weren't slain but rehabilitated. Pictures of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren littered every flat surface of Dad's home. His children would like to thank Dad's neighbors; Charlie and Jean, Gary and Esther, Larry and Susie, Barbara, Dick, and the other good people of Purdy Road without whom Dad's life would have been much less rich and happy. Thank you as well to Dr. Mitchko and Sheila; Dr. Deck and his loving staff; Steve who visited every Friday; Fran who delivered his mail; and Alice from Ontario Yates Hospice who made it possible for Dad to remain home with his loved ones. Dad donated to many causes and to his church.
