Obituary of Catherine I. Yahn

Catherine Isobel Yahn Canandaigua- It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Catherine (Cathy) Isobel Yahn, 70, who left this earth peacefully in her home on Sunday, September 4th, 2022. She was born to the late Clayton and Helen Hock of Red Creek, NY on January 16th, 1952. Cathy was married to Scott Yahn on April 25th, 1992, and they shared their lives together for 30 years before her passing. She is survived by her husband, Scott Yahn, and her three children: Scott Jensen of Concord, NC; Paul Jensen of Avon, NY; and Kirsten Yahn of Walworth, NY. She is also survived by her three grandchildren: Rylea, Jamisen, and Lily; as well as her siblings: Antoinette (Toni) Clark and Joseph Hock. After graduating from Red Creek Central School in 1970, she held a variety of jobs including CableVision of Geneva, Kirby Vacuums of Newark, and McCurdy’s of Victor, which she did in-between her calling as a stay-at-home mom to her three children. Cathy was a wealth of knowledge and always knew a little bit of everything. She was quick to say “did you know…” during a conversation and teach us something new all the time, even if we weren’t interested in learning a new tidbit, she didn’t care as she was going to tell us anyways. She welcomed people and stray animals into her home with open arms and always had a hot meal ready for anyone that needed it. She donated to several charities over the years as she always believed in giving back. She was smart, selfless, funny, and witty, and often had a pointed response that could make a sailor blush. Cathy was very proud of her children and the life she built. She taught us all how to be humble, grateful for what we have, and to give back or offer help if someone was in need. She was a proud cook and taking her to a restaurant was near impossible, as she almost always ended the meal by saying something along the lines of “the food was ok, but I can make it better”. We will all miss her humor and her spirit immensely. We invite friends, family, and acquaintances to join us to celebrate Cathy’s life at Fuller Funeral Home at 190 Buffalo Street in Canandaigua, NY. Calling hours are on Monday, September 12th from 5-8pm, and the funeral the following day on Tuesday, September 13th at 10am, both are open to the public. There will be a private burial ceremony immediately following the funeral at Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made in her honor to the March of Dimes, which is a charity that was near and dear to her heart.
