Richard Michael Joseph
Canandaigua- Richard Joseph, 93, passed away on October 21, 2018.
Rich was the second of eight children born in his grandparents' home on May 10, 1925 in the village of Akron New York. He graduated from Canandaigua Academy and worked at the Sampson Naval Training Center in Romulus, NY before enlisting in the U.S. Navy at age 18. He proudly served his country in North Africa in World War II.
A graduate of SUNY Oswego and the Pennsylvania State University, Rich worked as an Industrial Arts teacher in the Victor Central School District for 37 years. He built the home that he and Ann raised their four children in, and over the years created many pieces of fine furniture for his children as well as rocking horses for his grandchildren. Upon his retirement he and Ann traveled throughout the world and visited more than 100 countries. A devoted community volunteer, he gave his time to many local organizations. Of particular note, were the lively and historically descriptive tours he led of Sonnenberg Gardens for twelve years. He was also an active Rotarian, and member of St. John's Episcopal Church.
Predeceased by his parents, Mary and Michael; brother, George Joseph; sisters, Mabel Issa, Katherine Nicholas, and Barbara Joseph.
Survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Anna Issa. Also survived by his brother, Michael (Marie) Joseph, sisters Dorothy (Gordon) Churchill, and Diane Khouri; children, Richard (Brenda Spillman) of Gaithersburg, MD, Barbara (Douglas) Herendeen of Ocala, FL, David (Susan) Joseph of Rochester, NY and Dr. Daniel Joseph of St. Louis, MO; his grandchildren Michael Herendeen, Callan Joseph Ruf, Micah, Ty, Kathryn, Ethan, Meredith and Olivia Joseph. Also survived by many other relatives and dear friends.
Rich will be remembered as a loving and generous husband, brother, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Friends and family may call Friday, October 26, from 5-8pm at Fuller Funeral Home, Inc. 190 Buffalo St. Canandaigua. An 11 am funeral service will be held Saturday, October 27, at St. John's Episcopal Church, 183 N Main St, Canandaigua. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cenetery.
