Obituary of Isaac G. Moses
Isaac “Ike” Moses
Manchester- Ike Moses, life-long resident of Manchester, died Monday, December 5, 2016 at the age of 93.
He served under General Clark in the Fifth Army Division, 117th Chemical Warfare Unit, from January 1943 until December 15, 1945 when he returned home to his high school sweetheart and “lover girl”, Marjorie (Mason) Moses.
He started his career with Lehigh Valley and then transferred to East Rochester’s Car Shops before retiring in 1983 as the General Foreman of the Penn Central Railroad’s Mechanical Department in Rochester.
He was a great athlete, played semi-pro baseball (always talking about beating the “King and His Court”) and was inducted into the first Athletic Hall of fame for Red Jacket. He took up golfing at the age of 69 which he continued to play until this past 2016 season. He was also an avid card player and gardener.
In his younger years, he served as a village trustee and was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Manchester.
He was a family man who adored his wife of 57 years and he was an inspiration and source of wisdom to his entire family. He was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie, his son, Richard and his daughter-in-law, Kathy (Volpe) Moses.
He is survived by his two daughters; Margaret (Randy) Farnsworth and Mary (Mike) Buttaccio and two sons; Robert Moses, Jim (Janice) Moses.
He is also survived by his 10 grandchildren; Jeffrey (Krista) Moses, Christopher (Brittany) Moses, Danielle (Paul) White, Jenny (Scott) Coyne, Robert (Lori) Moses, Mary Margaret (Gary) Giangreco, Nicholas (Melissa) Buttaccio, Zachary Buttaccio, Meredith (Ross) Freida and Alexandra Farnsworth and 13 great grandchildren and three sisters, Jennie George, Helen Bonanno, and Catherine Tony.
His greatest life lesson: “What you put in, you find”. (Translation: The satisfaction you receive in life is dependent upon you and the effort you make.)
