Obituary of Gloria Selker
Gloria Bernice (Cyphert) LaBorde Selker
Gloria Bernice La Borde Selker passed away on July 29, 2024, in Palmyra, New York, at the age of 80.
She was born on January 2, 1944, in Clarion, PA, to Henry and Elline Cyphert.
Her educational journey included attending Clarion area schools for high school and earning her B.S.Ed. from Clarion State Teachers College and M.S.Ed. from Nazareth College.
Gloria, known for her love of family and zest for life, was a dedicated English teacher who positively impacted the lives of many students. She began her career at Ridgeway Schools and went on to teach Red Jacket, Bloomfield, and Victor, and retired from the Canandaigua City School District.
Gloria was a published author and a member of "Who's Who."
Outside of her professional life, Gloria was a talented trumpet player, an avid reader, and enjoyed solving crossword puzzles. She had a diverse taste in movies, appreciating both horror and comedy genres.
Gloria is survived by her sister, Pat Cimoshowski, brother, Henry Cyphert, sons David (Eileen) LaBorde II, Nathaniel LaBorde, Nicholas (Tricia) LaBorde, and Travis (Amy) LaBorde. She was a loving grandmother to Zachary Shafer, Monica LaBorde, Clarissa LaBorde, David LaBorde III, Nicholas LaBorde II, Sophia La Borde, Haley LaBorde, Tom Reuter, Max Angle, and Isabella LaBorde. Gloria was also a cherished great-grandmother to Delilah Rose LaBorde, Ahren LaBorde, Aydin LaBorde and Jaxson LaBorde.
She was preceded in death by her father, Henry Cyphert, mother Elline Cyphert, husbands David LaBorde and Ambrose Selker, and grandsons Nathaniel Laborde II and Nicholas James LaBorde.
In memory of Gloria, contributions can be made to Hospeace House in Naples, NY.
Gloria Bernice LaBorde Selker will be remembered for her kindness, dedication, and unwavering love for her family. She has left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A Memorial Service for Gloria will take place at 7:00 PM on August 9, 2024, at Fuller Funeral Home, 190 Buffalo St. Canandaigua.
