Obituary of James I. Gillmor
James I. Gillmor passed away peacefully surrounded by family July 17, 2024.
He was predeceased by his wife Elaine Hurlbutt Gillmor, his parents Calvin and Marie (Titus) Gillmor, his sister Marjorie Knesel and his brother Marion.
Jim is survived by his children Deborah (Ted) Mroz, Vicki Gillmor (Terry McLaughlin) and Scott (Lynn) Gillmor, his grandchildren Kyle (Marlee), Justin (Rachael) and Kaitlyn Gillmor, his great grandchildren Gabriella and Cohen and several nieces and nephews.
Jim was born in Canandaigua, NY and spent his entire childhood on Rochester Road, (Trenchman Hill). He walked 2 miles every day to attend the one room schoolhouse down the road from his home and went on to graduate high school from the Canandaigua Academy on Fort Hill Ave.
He met and married Elaine in 1952 and they settled down the road from his childhood home and went on to raise their 3 children, make lifelong friends with neighbors, host family gatherings and create memories for them all. Jim loved music, square dancing and spending time with family and friends.
Jim worked at Kordite/Mobil in Macedon, NY for 37 years and retired in 1992. After retiring he enjoyed his morning gathering at McDonald's with friends, mowing his lawn on his John Deere tractor, reading the Daily Messenger, afternoon naps and Wheel of Fortune followed by Jeopardy every night.
Jim was a kid at heart making sure there were snowmobiles, dirt bikes and camping trips for his family. He had a genuine interest in others. You could be sure that when meeting him for the first time the conversation would ultimately end with him finding a common thread between you. He will be greatly missed.
Donations in Jim's memory can be made to Wounded Warrior Project or Happy Tails Animal Shelter.
Friends may call Saturday, July 27th from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at Fuller Funeral Home, 190 Buffalo St. Canandaigua.
