Carlton (Carl) DeWaters
Penn Yan- Carl DeWaters, 96, passed away Friday, March 15, 2024 at the VA in Bath NY, surrounded by his loving family.
A funeral Mass will be held at Saint Michael's Church, 312 Liberty St., Penn Yan, NY 14527, Saturday, April 27, at 12:00pm. Burial will follow at Lakeview cemetery, 426 Court St. Penn Yan. Arrangements are in the care of Fuller Funeral Home, Inc.
Carl was born November 15, 1927 to Marion and Catherine DeWaters in Penn Yan, NY at the family farm house. The family then moved to Rochester, NY where he went to John Marshall H.S. He was drafted into the US Army on February 18, 1946 and was stationed in California. He re-enlisted and was deployed to Japan directly following WWII. Carl was so proud of his service to his Country and he told many stories of his experiences. He was honorably discharged October 1, 1947.
Carl was married to Peggy Stack November 20, 1948. They eventually built their home in Penn Yan with the help of his family. He retired from Taylor Instrument in 1985 with 39 plus years of service. His greatest joy was being surrounded by his family. His advice was endless, and his love was never ending.
Carl is survived by his children Nancy McGrath (Tom), Dianne Wardwell, Tom (Beth), Mimi Finn (Pat), Kim Hayes (Keith), his sister's in-law, Donna Murphy and Carol Carlin, many nieces & nephews. Carl is a proud grandfather of 17 and great-grandfather of 30 soon to be 31.
Carl was predeceased by his loving wife, Peggy of 72 years, also his son, Billy (Caroline) and daughter, Susan, son in-law, Bill Wardwell, brother's in-law, Tom Murphy, Bruce Carlin, Dick Brayer and sister, Marian Weckelman and brothers, Kenny, Chuck, and Ernie DeWaters.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to The VA in Bath NY. They always treated him with respect, dignity and friendship with good loving care.
