David Saur

Obituary of David E. Saur

David Saur went to our Lord on July 3rd, peacefully at home in his sleep, just two months before his 82nd birthday. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Mary Holdridge Saur, his sister Kathleen McNeil and his brother Peter Saur. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Virginia "Ginny," his daughter Kristin (Jay) Jacobson, sons Rob (Dana) and Tim (Tera), nine wonderful grandchildren, David, Nadia, Megan, Jonah, Alex, Liesel, Brennan, Nathan and Lily, and his sister Mary Pat Mowe. Born on September 21, 1941, in Syracuse, N.Y., David graduated from St. John the Baptist High School in 1959 and LeMoyne College in 1963, where he earned a degree in Accounting. In 1964, he married Ginny and soon after moved to Canandaigua. David would spend the next 33 years working for the New York State Office of the State Comptroller before retiring. In his spare time David volunteered for various positions at St. Mary's Church where he was a Eucharistic minister, helped with the Sunday collections, and was a volunteer at the annual yard sale. David was also a member of the Knights of Columbus where he loved to make pizza on bingo nights. At Sonnenberg Gardens, he volunteered as a tram driver, taking tourists through the Gardens. He coached Babe Ruth and Junior baseball with youthful enthusiasm. David loved to travel with his family, visiting various baseball parks along the East Coast, and every summer, in August, Saratoga was "his" place to be. Shortly after retirement, he and Ginny visited the West Coast several times and enjoyed a wonderful trip to England and France. Later in retirement, David was blessed to be able to take his children and grandchildren to various theme parks in Pennsylvania. Although he left our lives, he'll never leave our hearts. Calling Hours will be held at Fuller's Funeral Home on Sunday, July 16th from 4 - 7 PM. On Monday the 17th, there will be a mass at St. Mary's Church at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mary's School (16 Gibson St. Canandaigua, NY 14424) and Light Hill Hospice (5160 Parrish St. Canandaigua, NY 14424), in David's memory.
