Obituary of Terry Lee Dunlap
Terry L. Dunlap, 76, of Lake City, FL, passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 4, 2023 at Strong Memorial Hospital after a short battle with lung cancer.
Terry was born October 2, 1946 in Newark, NY to Floyd Dunlap and Mary (Van Dyke) Van Shaffel. While in high school he joined the United States Marine Corp. He served one term of active duty from July 1964 to July 1968 as an E4 Corporal Marksman; traveling all over the world to places like Japan, Hawaii and Vietnam. He completed his service and returned a Vietnam Veteran. He received multiple medals and awards for his service. Terry held his time spent and the Marine Brotherhood very dear to his heart. Once he returned to civilian status, he held an array of jobs over the years. He eventually retired in 2000 from Rochester Jet-Black as a foremen. Terry spent the remaining years enjoying life with his friends and family far and wide. He was a lifetime member of the Newark VFW, Post 2883.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carol (Panacy) Dunlap of 41 years; two children, Terry J. Dunlap of Bloomfield and Crystal (Dunlap) James of Canandaigua; four grandchildren, Donald Dunlap, Alexandria Lombart, CaBella Chiccino and Konner James; step sisters, Sandra (Van Shaffel) Lyons and Rachel (VanShaffel) Lyons; Sister-in-law Pat Dunlap; and many other family members.
He was predeceased by his parents, Mary (Van Dyke) Van Shaffel and Floyd Dunlap; step father, Lewis Van Shaffel; brother, Roger F. Dunlap; sister, Shirley (Dunlap) Federico; step brother, Thomas Van Shaffel and step sister, Barbara (Van Shaffel) Williams.
Calling hours for family and friends will be held on Friday, May 12 from 12:00pm – 2:00pm, at Fuller Funeral Home, Inc. 190 Buffalo St. Canandaigua. A 2pm funeral service will follow at the funeral home. A celebration of life will be held for all family and friends at the Newark VFW on 225 East Union St., Newark NY 14513 from 4:00pm – 6:00pm.
