Obituary of George E. Reineke

George E Reineke has joined his beloved wife, Joan, in their eternal home. George passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 27, 2021, with his 2 loving daughters by his side and his 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren in his heart. We are rejoicing that he is now whole in Heavenly body AND mind. His 2 daughters, Lois (Reineke) Day and Linda (Reineke) Johnstone had one goal in mind when their mother went back to the Lord in 2016: keep Dad out of a nursing home and comfortably living at home, despite his increasing dementia. We are proud to say that we did it and even though it wasn’t easy, it was definitely worth it. Lois welcomed him into her own home 14 months ago when he could no longer live on his own at the Ashton Place Assisted Living Community. We would like to thank the amazing staff at Ashton for keeping him happy there for as long as they could. After a brief adjustment, George settled into his favorite recliner at Lois’s house, with his loving dog Buddee by his side, and lived the rest of his days eating pancakes, waffles and lemon meringue pies. George will be remembered as a gifted piano player and played as recently as one week before he passed. His mind may have been going, but his fingers could still fly across the keys! We will forever cherish the videos we have of our 90 (plus) year old father playing honkey tonk music with feet tapping and shoulders bouncing….What a gift he gave to all of us who loved to hear him play! He was also a gifted story teller – he could not remember what he said 2 minutes ago, but boy could he tell you about his past. His life as a choral director in Park Ridge, New Jersey was his favorite topic of conversation and he could keep an audience engaged for hours with his shenanigans as a beloved teacher. Lois actually took the time to record all of his stories in a book called “George Reineke Remembers”. What a blessing that will be in years to come! Toward the end of his life, Lois needed some help with the day to day caring of George. Linda has been faithfully helping and supporting the effort to keep Dad (and Lois) happy. She graciously stayed with Dad to allow Lois to take some time off from caregiving. It was truly a sister team effort. We would also like to thank our two incredible care givers for the love and support they gave to our entire family, but especially our father, George. Frances and Susan, we could not have done this without you and you are forever in our hearts as our angels of compassion and grace. A 10:00 AM Memorial Service will be held on Monday, December 13, 2021 at the Fuller Funeral Home, 190 Buffalo Street in Canandaigua. The family recommends wearing masks and social distancing for everyone’s safety. Rest in Peace, Mom and Dad. We will all be together again one day!
