Obituary of Andrew R. Payne
Andrew Robert Payne
December 14, 1959 – November 25, 2021
Andy Payne exited this life in the same way he always left: stealthily. No warnings, no lengthy goodbyes. From almost every gathering he attended, he simply disappeared. And that's how he orchestrated his final departure. On the day before Thanksgiving, home alone, with the TV on and the woodstove aglow, his spirit went on for a ride.
Born to Bob & Mary Ann Payne, he was the only boy among four sisters. (Poor guy never had a chance!) He was a sensitive, funny, fix-it kinda kid and became the same as an adult. While his first foray (at age four) into lawn mower mechanics was of the green-paint-in-the-gas-tank-ilk, he went on to have a canny aptitude and fixed motors (and everything else) with finesse.
He lived his life in Farmington, first at the family homestead on Hook Road, then on Canandaigua-Townline Road where he enjoyed giant bonfires, riding his bike and taking amazing sunset phone photos.
Andy was loved. Equally as popular in the bar as the workplace, he had a way of making the room light up. Among his many friends and cronies, he will be missed by sisters, Kate Walholm, Pukulani, HI; Cynithia Payne, Seattle, WA and Sandy Gorall, Honeoye, NY; nieces and nephew, Anna Gorall, Ellie Gorall and Ben Bennink. He also leaves behind Joe Gorall and Tony Walholm. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Sally Payne.
A 12pm memorial service will be held Saturday, December 11 at Fuller Funeral Home, Inc. 190 Buffalo St. Canandaigua. The family encourages masks and social distancing.
Flowers are great and Andy would have loved them. But do consider these alternatives: Buy the house a round of Tanqueray the next time you're out. Treat someone to lunch. Call that long lost person you've been thinking of. Write your grandma a letter! And think of Andy.
