Obituary of Bonnie Lee Mark
Bonnie Lee Barile Mark was born on February 9,1934 to James Vincent Barile and Grace Veronica Cleary Barile. She peacefully left us in the early evening hours of June 27,2021, at home in Canandaigua, New York. In between these dates she lived a wonderfully full and spirited life.
At the age of 16, Bonnie graduated from Lincoln High School in Elwood City, Pennsylvania. In three years, at the age of 19, Bonnie graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Geneva
College in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania . Upon graduation from college, Bonnie was a business class teacher at Mohawk Jr./Sr. High, Mount Jackson, Pennsylvania. Throughout her childhood and adolescence, Bonnie was a dancer and singer; a natural performer! From 1950 to 1953, she was the singer for the Buddy Kreps Quintet. On June 23, 1956, Bonnie married the love of her life, Dr. Leonard Edward Mark, who predeceased her in February 2020 after 63 years of marriage. During their life together, they traveled to more than 33 countries, and all 50 states in the United States. Upon settling in Portsmouth Rhode Island where her husband was last stationed in the USN, Bonnie opened and ran the Portsmouth School of Dance from 1972 to 1981. In 1981, Bonnie began substitute teaching at Portsmouth High School and continued until 2001. Throughout the years, Bonnie remained an active and long- time volunteer in many programs, such as Pop Warner Cheerleading, Portsmouth High School Freshman cheerleading, advisor to the majorettes in the Portsmouth High School Marching Band, and Newport Naval Base Medical Dental Wives Club. A few favorite activities were the Town Howlers Square Dance Club and the Newport Naval Choristers. Bonnie was an active parishioner of St. Barnabas Parish in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, where she served as communicant and an active committee member in fundraising and social events. Perhaps her most beloved activities though were those surrounding all levels of sport, from high school to collegiate and professional. Bonnie was a knowledgable observer in all sport disciplines and she was a passionate life-long devoted fan of her beloved Pittsburgh Steelers, as well as in the last 40 years, the Boston Red Sox.
Bonnie leaves behind her daughter Victoria Lee Hornstein and husband Dr. Edmund Hornstein, her son Dr. James Barile Mark and wife Patrice Mark, her daughter Kathie Lynn Mark, grandchildren Daniel James Black, and wife Carla Black, Tori Lynn Sayanlar, and husband Dr. Jason Sayanlar, Kat Hornstein, Kyle Mark, Meaghan Mark, Mark Esen and great grand-daughter Lydia Grace Sayanlar. As were her wishes, Bonnie will be celebrated in a Catholic mass ceremony at her long-time home church of St. Barnabas Parish in Portsmouth, Rhode Island on August 9,2021, with a burial to commence in a double ceremony with her husband, Dr. Leonard E. Mark, Capt., Retired USN, at Arlington National Cemetery on September 23, 2021.
