Obituary of Edith M. Short

Edith M. Short Canandaigua- Edith Marie Short, 91, of Canandaigua, passed away on February 5 at Geneva General Hospital, surrounded by family. Calling hours will be from 2:00-3:00 on Monday February 17, at the Aloquin-Flint United Methodist Church 2760 State Route 5 and 20. Memorial service will immediately follow. Edith was born in Pleasant Valley, NY on October 19, 1928 to Charles and Sarah Wilt. She spent her childhood in Bath NY. She moved to Rochester, NY and married Donald Short on July 14, 1957. They raised five children during their 42 years of marriage. During her life, Edith enjoyed camping, traveling, and foliage rides in the fall. She shared her love of books with her grandchildren, and cherished time spent with them. Edith worked for a time at RF Communications in Rochester, NY. She was actively involved in her community, planning trips for senior citizen organizations in Bloomfield and Canandaigua. Edith was the last survivor of 5 siblings, Joyce Hamblin, Charles Webster, Mae Aungst, and Albert Wilt. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald Short, sons, Richard Newman and Ronald Van Sile, daughter, Carol Kernehan, and grandson, Evan Crowther. Edith is survived by three children, Terry (Simone) Van Sile, Nancy Van Sile, Diane (Dave) Dennie, daughters-in-law, Elaine Van Sile and Elaine Newman. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Eric (Heather) Van Sile, Brenda Van Sile, Kristin (John) Williams, Terri (Tony) Pardo, Holly (Michael) Lovejoy, Melanie (Chris) Colegrove, Richard Newman, Cindy Newman, Danielle Dennie, 20 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
