Obituary of Albert P. Benivegna

Albert P. Benivegna (97), passed away peacefully on 8/21/2019 at Light Hill, Canandaigua.  He was born on 3/16/22 in Brooklyn, NY to Antonio and Rosina Benivegna.  Albert grew up in Brooklyn and had a wonderful childhood, which he always loved recounting.  He served in the US Army in WWII and was stationed in India.  Albert had a long career as a tile contractor and was a true artisan. 

In 1950 he married the love of his life, Marie, and their storybook marriage carried through to this day.  They raised their family on Long Island in Massapequa through 1971 and then in Florida (Fort Lauderdale and Springhill).  In 1997 they moved to Canandaigua NY in close proximity to their son Richard Benivegna, MD. 

Albert was physically, spiritually and ethically a remarkably strong man and was very charismatic.  He enjoyed the Yankees and old westerns (Mom has memorized every line in every Gunsmoke episode from their shared viewing of the show).  Albert loved cooking and each day’s focus was the family dinner.  He was happiest when surrounded by family.

Albert is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marie Benivegna, children Gary (Betty), Richard (Linda) and Marybeth (Maria), 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.  We could never leave him without hearing the words “I love you and be careful”.  

A memorial mass will be celebrated Monday August 26 at St. Mary’s Church, 95 N. Main Street, Canandaigua.  Internment and a memorial celebration will be held in October in Queens, NY at a date to be determined. 

Albert spent the last 5 months of his life under the care of Light Hill hospice.  The family would like to express their deepest appreciation for the love, care and support that the staff and volunteers provided for him and for all of his family.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Light Hill, 5160 Parish Street Ext, Canandaigua, NY 14424.  https://lighthillhome.org/
