Obituary of Jane P. Harvey

Jane Pauline (Jen) Harvey passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on March 5th, 2019. She was 75 years old and 13 days shy of her birthday. She is survived by her loving and dedicated husband of 57 years, Gene Harvey, and her seven amazing children, fourteen grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings John, Beverly, and Leon.

Jane was born in Canandaigua, NY on March 18th, 1943 at Thompson Hospital to John and Helen Johnson. She met her wonderful husband Gene in Victor, NY in 1959, just before he started service in the United States Navy. They were married on March 15th, 1962 and went on to start their family which only grew and grew over the years. 

Jane had an amazingly big heart, and more love to give than it could hold. In 1992, she began her career as a foster mother. In the following years, she adopted 4 children, and fostered countless others who were struggling and needed a mother’s love. Her charity and compassion knew no bounds, and continue to influence the lives of others. 

Services in her memory will be held at Crosswinds Church where she attended worship. Calling hours will be from 11am-1pm on March 12th, with a memorial service immediately to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jane’s memory can be made to Care Net Pregnancy Center: carenetcan.org. 

Jane will be sorely missed, but never forgotten. Her legacy of charity, empathy, and compassion will continue to live on through all the lives she has touched. One of Jane’s favorite poems, ‘Nothing Gold Can Stay’ reminds us that even the best things in this world must one day leave us; but they are never truly gone. 

Nature’s first green is gold,

Her hardest hue to hold.

Her early leaf’s a flower;

But only so an hour. 

Then leaf subsides to leaf, 

So Eden sank to grief,

So dawn goes down to day.
