Obituary of Dorothy Ann Yerry
Dorothy Ann Yerry
It is with great sadness that the family of Dorothy Ann Yerry, known to them as “Aunt Dot,” announces her passing on June 28, 2018. Her two nieces, Lena and Marie were by her side.
Dorothy will be sadly missed by her nieces, Marie Schudde, Karen Hayes, and Magdalena Hayes-Fox. Dorothy will also be fondly remembered by her great-nieces, Kelly Whitley, Meghan Schudde, Dana Walker, Lauren Schudde, and Rhianna Hayes. She also leaves two great-great-nephews, Jalen Whitley and Diego Gonzalez and four great-great-nieces, Jule Whitley, Isabella Madrigal, Lucia Schudde, and Cecilia Schudde. Aunt Dot often said that she did not have a child until she was old—she enjoyed helping to raise Rhianna with Lena; Rhianna was her most cherished niece.
Dorothy enjoyed playing games and cards. Her great-nieces fondly remember her patience for endless games of gin rummy, war, Parcheesi, and Trouble. More recently, she spent those talents playing BINGO. She also liked to knit, crochet, and sew. She used those skills to make gifts for family, including doll blankets for her two youngest great-great-nieces for Christmas. She always maintained a sense of humor and was known for her youthful optimism. Aunt Dot’s philosophy was that any day that she woke up in the morning and could put one foot in front of the other was a good one.
Dorothy was born in Poughkeepsie on February 20, 1940. She was predeceased by her parents, Arnold and Anna Marie Langley Yerry, her second husband, Roland Normandin, and her sister and brother-in-law, Joan M. and Martin W. Hayes Jr.
Due to her wishes, there will be no calling hours or memorial service. Memorial donations in memory of Dorothy may be made to Happy Tails Animal Shelter, 2976 County Road 48, Canandaigua, NY 14424, because she was so found of animals.
