Dear Morey Family,
I studied with Mr. Morey 45 years ago when I was a student at the University of Rochester, and he was teaching at Eastman. He helped my playing tremendously, teaching me both drum set and tympani. He even took me on a few jobs with him. I specifically remember sitting in th epit next to him while he played with a big band at an Eastman Kodak auditorium. He also took me to a smaller dance job at a local restaurant in Canandaigua, where he let me sit in. (I grew up in Geneva.) Being able to play in a professional situation under his watchful eye was about the best thing that could happen to an eager student. He also let me practice for my senior recital at Eastmen on the tympani at MCC. He didn't have to do things like that - they were above and beyond the call of duty, so to speak - but to Mr. Morey, they were no big deal. The last time I saw him was in the early 1990s, before I moved to Los Angeles. I was touched that he remembered me clearly and had nice things to say about my playing. Chuck Morey was a wonderful man and an outstanding teacher, the kind of role model the world needs. I would like to offer my sincere condolences to his family.

Dear Family of Charles Morey,
I am deeply saddened and so sorry to hear of your loss. Chuck was an amazingly talented person. His musical abilities touched many people's lives and brought happiness to countless others.
Chuck and I knew each other for many years and because we were both drummers I would call Chuck to help me out when I needed a drummer for an engagement I couldn't make. We would chat and talk
about his vacations or upcoming trips and he was always bubbly and upbeat. During our conversations he would ask about my cousin who he taught to play drums when my cousin was very young and lived in Geneva, NY.
I will miss him as a drummer and a long time friend.
God Bless you during this time and may you find consolation in knowing that you were blessed by the impact that Chuck made in the lives he touched. May the sorrow you feel in your hearts be lightened by the love that surrounds you.
Joe DeRosa, Webster, NY

Played with Chuck for many years in various big bands around town. He was an impeccable percussionist, fantastic music educator (I still use several of his methods and solos with my students), and a wonderful person. Hope he gets to take a solo whenever he wants with the band Upstairs. Rest In Peace.

I am a proud student of "Mr. Morey" - he got me started in 1961 and I've been an active percussionist since. Through his efforts I attended Talleyho Music Camp 2 summers on scholarship. Middlesex Valley was put on the map (musically) through his leadership of a very modest program. Everything he did, he did well - a symbol of pride. I made a point of staying in touch and keeping up with what he was doing professionally because he never ceased to be an inspiration.

Guy and I have known Chuck for many years, and we have always been very fond of him and highly respectfull of his work. In addition to being an outstanding and creative percussionist, Chuck was always a lover of people. Once you met him, you immediately were warmed by his smile and delighted to be in his company. He treated everyone like family. It is a great loss to his friends and family that he has left this earthly existence. But, he must be rejoicing in heaven as he gets reacquainted with those who have gone before. And I am sure the music in heaven is glorious and that he will quickly become a part of it.
Our most sincere condolences go to his family, especially to Melody, Paul, and the kids. Your grieving of his loss is still painful, even though you have faith in God. He has left your presence for a time, but you will see him again!

I admired Chuck for his musicianship and undying love of teaching. Chuck left a tiny bit of his musical soul on so many of my students in Canandaigua as well as my own son.
Such a lovely person who will be missed by so many.

So sorry to hear of Chuck's passing. I always enjoyed his drumming when he subbed for the RG&E Big Band years back. I believe it was when we were being directed by Jack End and maybe when Gus "Tedo" D'Aurizio was directing. What a full and remarkable life Chuck lived. My prayers to his family and friends.

I have heard of Chuck's love of music for many years but never was in a group that he conducted. Last year I joined the Victor Pops Band where Chuck was a percussionist. After our most recent concert I told my husband how wonderfully Chuck played that night! I am so glad that I had the opportunity to be in a group with him. He loved playing and people loved to have him playing. My sincere sympathies are with his family and friends.

I am so sorry to learn of Chuck's passing. When I was teaching my students and I always looked forward to performing and attending the high school jazz festival he produced at MCC. Countless students benefitted from the adjudicator's comments and from hearing, probably for the first time, the bands of musicians like Woody Herman and Maynard Ferguson. Since his death, I am just learning of the many wonderful contributions that Chuck very quietly made to people's lives and careers. A life well lived. My condolences to his family.
