Obituary of Onecimo Charlie Aponte
~~Canandaigua NY - Onecimo “Charlie” Aponte Passed away on July 7, 2017 at the age of 91 at the House of John in Clifton Springs, NY. He is survived by one son, Eric Charles (Lynne) Weaver, a retired Sergeant with the Rochester, NY Police Department and former Wesleyan Minister, and three granddaughters, Erika (John, a Geneva police officer) Van Savage, Danielle (Aaron) Bartoo, and Samantha Weaver. He had six great-grandchildren; Hailey, Mia, Duke, Roma, Isabella, and Jonah. He is also survived by two younger brothers, Luis (Ruth) Aponte and Luis Alberto (Anna-Liza) Aponte, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Aponte was predeceased by his father and mother, Ramon and Leonor Flores Aponte, of Puerto Rico, as well as a sister, Carmen (Joe) Menendez, brothers Salvador, Raul (Lissy), and Ramon. He was also predeceased by his first wife of 40 years, Catherine (Giardino) Aponte, and his second wife of 20 years, Lorena Belle (House) Aponte, both of Geneva, NY. Mr. Aponte was born in Puerto Rico and was one of seven children. He came to the United States in 1948 and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1952. He served in the Korean War for fourteen months with the 159th Field Artillery, 8th Army Division, and obtained the rank of corporal. After returning home, Mr. Aponte worked for Shuron Optical Company in Geneva, NY for 14 years making eyeglasses. He also worked at the Seneca Army Depot driving truck delivering merchandise for the government to numerous Post Exchanges throughout NYS. Mr. Aponte also had fond memories of being a barber in Geneva. Mr. Aponte ultimately retired from Lynch’s Furniture in Geneva after 31 faithful years in shipping and receiving. After retirement, he volunteered at both Park Ridge Hospital and Thomson Hospital in the transportation office, for a combined total of over 9,500 volunteer hours. Calling hours will be held at Fuller Funeral Home, 190 Buffalo St., Canandaigua, NY on Thursday, July 13, 2017 from 1:00pm-3:00pm, and from 5:00pm-7:00pm, at which time a Memorial Service will be held immediately following. A private burial will be held the following day at Glenwood Cemetery in Geneva, NY. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the House of John, 14 Spring St., Clifton Springs, NY 14432.
