Obituary of Richard E. Boyle

Richard Edward Boyle, 93, died Thursday, May 18, 2017 in the company of his family and loved ones. He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Dorothy (Dederick) Boyle, his daughter Sandra (Boyle) Schlenker and her husband Thomas Schlenker, Richard's sons Thomas Boyle, Richard P. Boyle, James Boyle and his wife Darlene. Richard is survived by 5 grandchildren; Susan (Schlenker) Porter, Michael Schlenker, Wendy (Boyle) Quincy, Christopher Boyle and Thomas Boyle. He is survived by 8 great-grandchildren; Cassaundra Schlenker, Jocelyn Porter, Ryan Schlenker, Kaylan Porter, Madeleine Porter, Adrienne Porter, Tessa Quincy, Owen Quincy; one great-great-grandson, Jamison Schlenker, sister-in-law Jean (Miller) Boyle, brother-in-law Edwin Dederick and many loved ones, nieces, nephews and friends including Alexandra Boyle, Kelsey Halloran, Audrieanne Kolodziejski, Brian Pratt, Mark Quincy, Alexis Rideout, Cody Rideout, Gina Rideout, Jeff Smith, and many others. Richard is pre-deceased by mother Carrie (Burnett) Boyle, Father Thomas Boyle, brother Thomas Boyle and his wife Margaret (Shue) Boyle, brother Harold Boyle, sister Marion (Boyle) Edick and her husband Kenneth Edick. Richard was born in Syracuse NY in 1924 and married his beloved wife and high school sweetheart Dorothy, also from Syracuse, before joining the army in 1942. Richard was a Technical Sergeant in the US Army Communications Corps, attached to the US Air Force in the WWII China-Burma-India campaign until his discharge in 1945. Richard and Dorothy raised their family in many towns and cities throughout the Northeast during his career in retail management for companies including Lincoln Stores, Grieves Bissett, and Howland, G.E.M., Grand Way and Hills Department Stores until he retired in 1986 to "the chosen place", Canandaigua. Dick Boyle served proudly as treasurer of American Legion Post 256 in Canandaigua and had many wonderful memories of his comrades in arms there. Richard loved golf, loved the lake, loved horses and most of all, loved his family. He was a devoted husband, great dad and a terrific friend to all who knew him. He will be truly missed. Calling hours will be on Sunday, May 28, from 2-3pm at Fuller Funeral Home, Inc. 190 Buffalo St. Canandaigua. A 3pm memorial service will follow at the funeral home and then a celebration of Richard's life at American Legion Post 256 in Canandaigua.
