Obituary of Lauren S. Broadwell

Big white house with wagon wheels out front. Lauren S. Broadwell, 27, of Canandaigua, New York, passed away in her family home on Sunday, April 23, 2017.
A beautiful soul with a zest for life, Lauren was born on May 19, 1989, in Canandaigua to Valorie Woodside and Bill Broadwell. Graduating in 2007 from Marcus Whitman High School, she went on to attend Finger Lakes Community College, earning an associates degree in social sciences. Lauren grew up a bright spirit who enjoyed swimming and lacrosse, gaining many long-lasting friendships along the way. She was a spitfire on the “lax field,” as one friend and teammate recounted. The two of them became so intense and competitive that they were thrown out of back-to-back games together. This is just one of the many memories that have been shared by friends and family of Lauren.
Lauren was a beautiful, loving and empathetic individual. She could light up a dark room with her contagious smile and bright blue eyes. Many would say Lauren was a generous soul. It is said that we practice generosity whenever we ‘open doors for others’. It is the habit of giving freely from the heart without expecting reciprocation, acknowledgement or gratitude. Lauren was that person who would give her last dollar to someone she thought needed it more than herself. Although Lauren may not have had the opportunity to use her degree, her goal was to help others. It did not matter who you were or what your story was; the love Lauren gave to others was unconditional and had no bounds.
Lauren is survived by her mother, Valorie Woodside, of Canandaigua, her father and step-mother, Bill and Laurie Broadwell of Bloomfield, her oldest sister Devin Broadwell (Kyle Jensen) of Waterloo, her sister Ciera Broadwell (Kraig Wright) of Rockville, Maryland and her step-sister, Amy McKearney (Kevin) of Crofton, Maryland.
Lauren is not just another statistic or "someone gone too soon." She was a great heart with a bright future. The world has lost a wonderful gift that can never be replaced. If her struggle with addiction and unfinished story could help just one other person, then her life would not be lost in vain. She has left her mark on us all. The stars will forever shine a little brighter.
A celebration of life will be held at 9154 State Route 5 & 20 in Bloomfield, New York, on Friday, April 28 at 4:00 p.m.
