I just learned of Nate's untimely passing. I was completely in shock, as I am sure were all his family, friends, and co- workers. Nate and I didnt see each other a lot, but we did run into each other from time to time. I am saddened that we won't be able to go on any more snowmobile trips. Those memories I will hold on to for ever. My deepest sympathy to his family members.

Nathan was my very best friend all though 4 years at Cortland. He was the one person I could count on for everything. He always knew how to make me smile even on my worst day. He was at my wedding, and shortly after I moved back to the area from philadelphia, he met my first daughter. She was little and wobbly, but that didn't stop him. He just scooped her right out of my arms and couldn't stop staring at her. That's just the way he was with kids! He was the kind of person I wouldn't see for a while, and we would fall back into where we left off, never missing a beat. He was supportive of me at every turn. He was like that with everyone. I am a better person for having known him. He was wonderful and I will miss him. My thoughts and prayers will always be with his family, especially his daughter. I pray she will know how much he loved her and how much he wanted the world for her.

My husband, Joe Emmons, was a friend of Nate's and we were so very saddened to hear of his passing. I have to say that in the 4 years I've been a part of Joe's life, I have met many of his friends & Nate made an impression on me. I know Joe & Nate used to see more of each other when they would ride their bikes together, work out, etc. Life evolved for both of them over these past few years & they didn't see each other as much, but always stayed in touch with each other & got together from time to time. In the times I was in Nate's company, he was always so caring & sweet natured. You could feel his sincerity & once we shared a very meaningful conversation about life & relationships. He told me that he admired the love that Joe & I had for each other & that we gave him hope. Nate attended our Wedding last May '07 & we were honored to have him there. He wrote a beautiful card to us that we still have and will cherish always. On a personal note, to share with the family what a sweet heart I witnessed in Nate: I had a minor surgery last year & Nate called Joe because he had something for me... it was a lily plant. I was so touched that he thought of me & made the effort to go get me something that would brighten my day as I was recovering. We planted the lily in our yard & I enjoyed it for many months. May you rest in peace Nate. My husband & I will miss you. Thank you for touching our lives. Always, Elizabeth Emmons

Nate you will be truly missed, you are a great friend and father. Everyone that new you knows how much you loved children and how much you wanted to have as many children as could. The best memory I have of Nate was when I brought my 3 week old daughter into visit friends at Boces and he was wanting to hold her and love her. He held her in his arms like a little football, watching Nate with my little Allison I new then what a great and loving father he is and was to his daughter Cadence. We love you Nate and we will miss you tremendously.

Very rarely can you get so close to someone so fast. I worked with Nate at The Morgan Middle School this summer. He reminded me of my own son who was the same age. I am so grieved by his death. He was so sick the last few days of his life. He was so dedicated to his daughter. This is why he came into school so sick. This morning when I went to church to teach Sunday School I happened to mention to a fellow teacher how grieved I was at the untimely death of a colleague. Coincidentally she mentioned to me that she knew him. His father was her youth pastor growing up. She told me that Nate knew the Lord Jesus as his Lord and Savior. That gave me great comfort to know that Nate is in heaven with his savior. Even though I will miss his smiling face I know that I will see Nate again in heaven. May our dear Lord and Savior Jesus Christ comfort all who have loved Nate as he will be truly missed.
Sincerely,
Christine Cravatta

My heart and prayers go out to the Fehrenbach family. Nate was the therapist for my son Nicholas for 2 years: his patience and caring -- and his ability to work with of one of those "hard to reach" kids -- was remarkable. Our family mourns his loss ... we will miss his wonderful influence on Nicholas.

I am saddened to hear of Nathan's passing. I have many fond memories with Nathan, whether it be riding with him on his motorcycle, being a spectator at basketball games or track meets, or spending time with his family. We even went off to Cortland together, although we eventually lost touch with one another. I was unaware that Nathan had a daughter and am so sad for her. I believe I have some newspaper clippings of Nathan's sports achievements that I would like Cadence to have. My thoughts and prayers are with Nathan's family and friends at this terribly difficult time. May your memories with Nathan help heal your hearts.

It is with a deep and profound sadness that I heard of Nate's passing. Of the many many youths I have worked with in church and in the schools, Nate was one of the finest, most sincere and genuinely vulnerable youths I have ever known. it was my privilege to have had some memory of him to cherish, even years later. My heart grieves deeply with all the family.

In 1993, I moved to Rushville not knowing anyone. My daughter was just 3 years old at the time and her father traveled for a living so we were pretty lonesome. I recall many times being outside playing with my daughter on a sunny weekend afternoon and seeing Nate, just a teenager, mowing the grass in the development in which I lived. He was always so friendly and kind and gave us a wave and a smile each time he saw us. His smile would light up a room. My daughter would say "Mommy, there's that nice guy again!" and her little arm would wave away at him. I'm sure it sounds silly but this small gesture from this young man really meant a lot to us and made us feel welcome. I ran into Nate years later and recognized him right away. I told him I remembered him from his lawn mowing days. He then remembered me saying "you lived in the house with all the snowmobiles"
. "I was always so jealous of those snowmobiles!". We laughed and had a nice conversation and I could tell right away that this fine, handsome man, had a beautiful soul ~ just as I had suspected years ago. I am saddened to hear of his passing and I am honored to have known him even just a little. This world has lost a wonderful human being. God Bless you Nate.
