JOHN W. CARLILE
Local contractor
CANANDAIGUA: John W. Carlile, 92, died peacefully and surrounded by his family Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at Hospeace House in Naples.
John was born in Canandaigua on January 15, 1919 to the late Andrew and Mabel Carlile. He attended rural school in Cheshire and later graduated from Canandaigua Academy (Class of 1937). While attending high school he was very active with the FFA. He managed the family farm near Cheshire for many years and later worked for Eastman Kodak and RG&E. He owned and operated his own poultry business for several years and worked for Caves Lumber in Holcomb. More recently he was the owner and operator of Carlile Electric and Construction Company building many area homes including his own.
He was a member of the United (Presbyterian-Baptist) Church and had been a member of Canandaigua Grange #1062 for over 60 years. John was an office holder and lifelong member of the Ontario County Fair Board where he impacted the fairs initiation and growth. He was also a member of the Cooperative Extension and had been a 4-H leader teaching electrical projects. John had a love for flowers and gardening and was always bringing bouquets for the home. He loved to tinker and putter around the shop claiming that staying active was the reason for his good health. He will be remembered for his special chicken BBQs, his kind and compassionate personality and always being willing to extend a helping hand whenever necessary.
He is survived by his children John Jack (Georgene) Carlile, Jr., Silver Spring, MD, Dawn (John) Scales, Canandaigua, Lynne (the late Richard) OConnor, LaGrangeville, NY, Scott Carlile and Kent (Doreen) Carlile of Canandaigua; his grandchildren Andrea (Ben) Carlile-Haner and David Carlile, Michael, Brett and Carrie Scales, Matthew, Erin and Lauren OConnor and Kyle (Jessica), Kayla and Kolby Carlile; great grandchildren Ava and Tyler Carlile; his brother Donald (Helen) Carlile, Fl; his sister Joan Lawrence, MI; his sister-in-law Elaine Banker, VA and several nieces and nephews.
