Ray, Heidi, Penny, and Patti...my memories, my thanfulness, and my prayers will be with all of you and the best foster mom and one of the best human beings ever. For years I have thought about you all, and today I discovered this. Your mom gave me strength, courage, and a reason to believe...it has made me what I am today and I am reminded each time I look into my boys' eyes. God bless all of you!!!

To the Barend Family: My deepest sympathies about the loss of Mrs. Barend. As many of you know, I was one of their foster children. I often think of the kindness that they afforded to me when I lived with them. I was unaware of the passing of Mrs. Barend and am saddened to hear such news today. Mr. and Mrs. Barend had such a positive effect on my life and I am thankful for that. Mrs. Barend was so nice and encouraging. It is seldom people are fortunate enough to be shown such kindness. She was truly one of the wonderful people of my life.

Elane was the most giving person I ever met. I used to go to buy fabric and end up spending the whole afternoon. She used to call me her "guardian angel". Now I hope she is mine. I know we lost touch, but you were always a light in my memory book. So, go up there to that great"garage sale" in heaven, where you don't have to haggle because everything is free. You'll be missed.

I met Elane at her fabric store many years ago. My Mom and I used to go spend lots of time looking and buying fabric, and Elane was always so helpful and friendly. I was always amazed at all she accomplished and especially at her caring of foster children as well as her own. She always used to talk about the house that they would build way out in back some day. Even after she had moved and been ill, I kept running into her at stores and in parking lots and she always had a kind word. "Oh yes," she would say, "I know you live on top of the hill as you drive into Holcomb." She was a lovely lady. My sympathy to the whole family.
