Albert Eugene Baker
Albert Eugene Baker, age 87, of Canandaigua, passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2010, after a lengthy illness.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 67 years, Elsie J. (Taylor); two daughters, Jayne (Jack ) Bobsein of Canandaigua and Judy Baker (Michael Long) of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren, Amy (James) Pfeffer, Mark (Jennifir) Bobsein, Dana (Harlan) Clark and Michelle (Troy) Walding; and seven great-grandchildren.
Al was born in Gowanda, N.Y. on March 7, 1923 and was a graduate of Gowanda High School. He lived in the area for 80 years, moving to Canandaigua in 2003.
A veteran of World War II, Al served with the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946. He was trained in International, German and Japanese codes and procedures and served in the Communications Headquarters of Intelligence as part of the United States Strategic Air Force in the Pacific.
He was a founding member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Gowanda and a member of the American Legion.
He was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Gowanda for many years.
There will be no calling hours and no memorial service has been planned at this time.
