Obituary of Carol Shay

Carol J. Shay Loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Canandaigua - Carol Shay, of West Lake Drive and Quail Summit Senior Community, passed away May 4, 2015, surrounded by her loving family. Carol was born on April 27, 1928, in Rochester and was a graduate of Canandaigua High School Class of 1946. She married Walter R. “Bob” Shay on July 8th, 1950. He was the love of her life for 59 wonderful years until he passed away July 24, 2009. Carol worked at the Ontario County Courthouse in the early years, started her family of four boys and then continued working in the insurance business at Touhey Insurance and Schneider Insurance until she retired in 1990. Carol and Bob enjoyed dancing with the Starlighter’s Dance Club and taking family camping vacations. Carol also was involved with Bob and many friends in trap shooting and retriever field trial events. She cherished time with her family and traveling with Bob in their RV. She is remembered for her gentle sense of humor, extreme love of family, and compassion for others. She is survived by her sons, Randy (Marianne) Shay and Tracy Shay; daughters-in-law, Susan Shay and Kathy Shay; grandchildren, Kevin, Tierney, Corey, Austin, Megan, Kierra and Erinn; brother, Gordie Peer; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sons, Wayde and Brett Shay and her brother, Ronald Peer. Friends may call Friday, May 22, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Fuller Funeral Home Inc., 190 Buffalo St, Canandaigua. Her memorial service will be held Saturday, 11:00 am, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
