To All Members of the Gates Family:
On behalf of the entire USS Bennington Association, please accept our belated condolences on the loss of your loved one and our shipmate.
At our reunion in Reno, NV in two weeks, Richard shall be remembered. His name, along with the other Airmen, Marines & Sailors that served aboard the USS Bennington so proudly, will be read and a moment of silence will be rendered.
Like BENNINGTON, Richard is gone but his memory shall remain with us always. Now that he stands, "The Eternal Watch" and awaits our arrival, please know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers.......
With My Deepest Sympathy,
Joseph L. Pires

Uncle Dick you will be very much missed! You were such a kind man with a HUGE heart that reached out to everyone you met. You fought such a courageous battle with cancer and died with much dignity. I know that your well taken care of now with Jesus and free from pain. I have many good memories of our camping trips and bike rides that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Give Shep and Sunshine a pet on the head for me. I love and miss you.
Wendy
