Obituary of Sandra Zurlo
Sandra Zurlo
Canandaigua
Saltonstall St.
1942 -2013
Sandy peacefully and lovingly passed away on July 17, 2013 with friends and family at her bedside.
Born in Canandaigua her parents Sarah (Dovidio) from Bloomfield and John Zurlo from Canandaigua were well respected as simple, hard working and salt of the earth.
Sandy attended St. Marys Catholic School and Canandaigua Academy. She graduated from Nazareth College in Rochester. Taught English in NYC before returning to Canandaigua where she had a 27-year career with NYS Department of Labor holding several supervisory positions including outreach to migrants and seasonal farm workers. She was remembered for her kindness to her clients.
Sandy was a powerful influence locally in the Democratic Party. She worked hard and successfully on city and presidential campaigns.
Sandy was a generous woman known for her big-hearted spirit, cheerfulness and always doing for others. Her homemade Italian cookies were a priceless gift she mailed out faithfully every Christmas.
She enjoyed putting on parties at her home for any, and all occasions, most famous were her St. Joseph Day celebrations. On her final days she instructed us in planning her own memorial party!
Sandy had a wonderful wit. She is known for her extraordinary story telling and her stories will live on forever. She will be sadly missed.
Sandy was predeceased by her parents John & Sarah Zurlo and her infant sister, Grace Marie.
