BRUCE R. ROE
ALWAYS A MARINE
BLOOMFIELD: Lifelong Bloomfield resident, Bruce Roe, died Thursday, May 16 at Thompson Hospital as a result of complications from exposure to agent orange.
Bruce was born in Rochester on Aug. 29, 1945 to the late Dean and Eunice Roe. He served with the U.S. Marines from 1964 to 1967. He was assigned to Golf Co. 21, 2nd. Batt., 1st. Marines at Camp Pendleton and upon arriving in Viet Nam was assigned to Foxtrot Co., 2nd. Batt., 4th. Marines. Serving as a rifleman, he was wounded in March 1966 during Operation Texas and was hononrably discharged in 1967 from Quantico. He was a life member of the Marine Corps League, VFW Post 7414 and American Legion Post 256. Bruce was an active volunteer and served with the Post 256 Honor Guard and Memorial Day Detachment 468. He was a self employed framing contractor for forty years.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years and love of his life Carol (Wilkins) Roe; two daughters Rochelle (Craig) Domville and Krista (John) Schlenker; his grandchildren Travis (Leigha), Justin (Samantha), Hanna and Jakob; his sisters Deanna (John) McKelvey and Joanne (Sonny) Newbauer; Pepper and Missie,sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
At Bruce's request, there will be no prior calling hours. Graveside services with military honors will be conducted in Miller Corners Cemetery, Ionia, at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 23. It has been suggested that memorials be directed to the Bloomfield Food Bank, Renewalk Ministries, Inc., the Blessing Room, 117 West Main St., Bloomfield, NY 14469.
