Obituary of Josephine Barry
Josephine Barry Spedick
Canandaigua- Josephine Barry Spedick, loving grandmother, mother and sister, age 90 passed away on Friday, October 19, 2012.
She was preceded by her husband, Robert W. Spedick Sr. and her son Robert W. Spedick Jr. Jo is survived by her daughter, Mary Beth (Spedick) Woolwine (Jim) and daughter-in-law, Robyn (Coleates) Spedick; three grandchildren, Yvonne (Woolwine) Cunningham (Sean), James T. Woolwine and Robert S. Spedick; one great grandchild, Dominic A. Woolwine; Tom Lamb and her buddy Georgene McKeown.
Jo lived her life in service of others. She traveled the world as a nun prior to settling in Canandaigua, NY where she opened the first out-patient Veterans homes in 1957 on Chapin Street and Pearl Street, even against the protest of some. She continued to operate the homes until she retired in 1980 and they continue to remain in the family to this day.
She was energetic, enjoyed walking, crafts, crocheting (including making booties for family, friends and veterans every year for Christmas), and most of all spending time with her family. She was always there with a smile and hug.
She will be sadly missed by her family, friends and the veterans.
Services will be private, in lieu of flowers; donations in her memory may be made to the Canandaigua Veterans Club, 17 Foster Street, Canandaigua, New York, 14424. Arrangements are under the care of Fuller Funeral Home, Inc. Canandaigua.
