Obituary of Mary Jane Johnson

MARY JANE JOHNSON CANANDAIGUA: Mary Jane Johnson, 95, of Parrish St., died Sunday, Aug. 12, at the Conesus Lake Nursing Home. Mary Jane was born in Canandaigua on Aug. 29, 1916 to the late Charles Dana and Kathryn Steinbaugh Salnave. She was a graduate of Canandaigua Academy, Class of 1933. She was a member and Past Noble Grand of Canandaigua Rebekah Lodge, past president of the Canandaigua PTA and former District Director of Ontario and Yates County PTA. She had been a member of the Granger Homestead Society and Women’s Council and a member of the Canandaigua Business and Professional Women. She retired in 1987 after 17 years as resident manager of Finger Lakes Manor Apartments. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Kathryn J. Erdle, Canandaigua, Carol J. and David Hagadorn, Canandaigua and Zephyrhills, FL and Nancy and Robert Ellis, Zephyrhills, FL; her grandchildren Tim Erdle, Kevin Erdle, Sally Erdle, Jeff & Tammy Hagadorn, Julie & Nick Fiorentino, Jennifer & Heath Gerstner, Todd & Karen Bauer and Tammy & Greg Stefall; 12 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years Carlton Johnson, her son Allyn Dana Johnson and her sisters Bette Mack and Wilma Coleates. At Mary Jane’s request there will be no prior calling hours. Memorial Services will be held in the Chapel of First United Methodist Church, where she had been a member for over 80 years, on Wednesday, Aug. 22, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. It has been suggested that, in lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory be directed to the First United Methodist Church, 100 North Main St., Canandaigua or to Ontario County A.R.C., 3071 County Complex Drive, Canandaigua, NY 14424.
