Mary Lucia Clawson
Mary Lou
Canandaigua- Mary Lou Clawson died at F.F. Thompson Hospital Thursday morning, July 18, 2012.
She is survived by her husband, Jack Clawson, a native of Canandaigua, and her children: Jim, John, Joan and Martha. Being an only child, she delighted in her nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Born in Hollywood, California in 1925, she spent the bulk of her life with her family in Canandaigua, never letting anyone forget that she was a true Californian. Coming east after the death of her parents, she graduated from the nursing program at Bellevue Hospital, NYU. She began her career as a Nurse Cadet at the local VA, living in the turret room of the then nurses quarters in the Sonnenberg Mansion. Her career brought her to many local hospitals and practices, with the majority of her experience at Thompson Hospitals Maternity unit, which she loved the most. She was also known for her greenhouse, where she grew many orchids and contributed many to the Conservatory at Sonnenberg Gardens. She and her husband had just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on July 5th. She was well known for her generous and gregarious spirit and will be greatly missed.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Marys Church 95 N. Main St. Canandaigua, on Saturday, July 21st at 2pm. Arrangements are under the care of Fuller Funeral Home, Inc. 190 Buffalo St. Canandaigua.
