Obituary of Michael Frasca
Michael J. Frasca
Canandaigua- Michael J. Frasca, 87, a lifelong resident of Canandaigua, passed away peacefully at his home, on May 30th, 2012, after a lengthy courageous battle with illness.
Michael was born on May 12th, 1925 to Ralph and Lucy Frasca. He attended St. Mary's School and was a graduate of Canandaigua Academy.
After graduation Mike enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on September 13th, 1943. He served in WWII in the Pacific Theater and participated in the Occupation of China. Mike was also a certified rifle sharpshooter. He achieved the rank of Corporal, and was honorably discharged on August 23rd, 1946. He was a very proud Marine.
During his lifetime, Mike worked in partnership with his brother, John, at Frasca Brothers Collision, where they worked alongside his brother Bob, and his nephew John. He was highly skilled in the art of auto body repair, and was a well known, often requested, tow truck operator.
Mike enjoyed fishing, target shooting, and was also a very accomplished carpenter, who enjoyed working with wood. On October 9th, 2011 Mike was very fortunate to fly to Washington D.C. with Honor Flight 19. He enjoyed his trip tremendously. It was a very moving experience for him to know that so many people appreciated his service to our country.
He is survived by his sister, Laura Simak of Rochester; and his brother, Louis (Ann) Frasca; and his sister-in-law, Barbara Frasca; of Canandaigua. Mike is also survived by his friend and devoted care giver David Bloom and his little buddy Ryan (Speedy) Schurr and his father Bradley Schurr of Canandaigua. Mike will also be sadly missed by his faithful cat Cody. He also leaves behind treasured nieces and nephews.
Michael was predeceased by his wife, Carolyn; his parents, Lucy and Ralph Frasca Sr.; his brothers, Patrick, John, Joseph, Ralph, and Robert; and his sisters Mary, Lucy, and Grace.
His caregivers would like to extend their extreme gratitude to Dr. Tyner of Clifton Springs Hospital and Clinic for the skillful and compassionate care he gave to Mike throughout the years. His guidance during Mike's many struggles is immeasurable. They would also like to thank Dr. Vince, Dr. Rahmani, and the staff at Eastview Dialysis for the compassionate care they extended to Mike during his many years of treatment. They made his life better with their kind words and actions. We would also like to thank the many CATS bus drivers who transported Mike back and forth to his treatments and shared conversation and laughter with him, and treated him with the utmost respect and dignity. We would also like to recognize the many friends Mike shared his time with at Burger King. Many thanks to them for their devoted friendship and caring.
