Obituary of Eugene McKenney

Eugene Francis McKenney 1927-2014 Palo Alto, CA- Gene McKenney passed away February 15, 2014 at the Terraces in Los Altos, CA, after a two year battle with spinal stenosis, and finally, pneumonia. He was born in 1927, and raised at Father Baker’s Home in Lackawanna, NY, a well-known orphanage of the period, founded by the priest that was named the most influential person in Buffalo in the 20th century. The compassionate teachings of Father Baker were reflected in Gene’s long life. Gene came to Canandaigua at age 18, became employed at Thompson Hospital as an orderly, and worked his way up to Surgical Technician, a position he also served in at Ft. Belvoir, VA during his service in the Korean War. Returning to Canandaigua, he was employed by Eastman Kodak in Rochester and later in Palo Alto, CA. Always a hard worker, he maintained a construction business for many years as well. An astute investor, Gene prided himself on his success in the stock market and California real estate. He had a wealth of friends on both coast. Locally, he was extremely close to Ed and Ann Hanley and their family, the Meath family, the Kimbles, Dr. and Mrs. Connie Carpenter, Dr. and Mrs. Bill Weeden and many others. Services were held in Palo Alto. Those wishing may make a donation in his memory to Ontario Children’s Fund, P.O. Box 82, Canandaigua, NY 14424. A memorial reception to celebrate his life will be held at Patty’s Place, 33 S. Main St., Canandaigua on March 1, 2014 from 2-4 p.m. To share a memory or express condolences online please visit www.fullerfh.com
