Obituary of Anthony Raguso

Anthony “Tony” Raguso Canandaigua- Anthony Raguso, 89, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Survived by his wife of 66 years Josephine, and four children: Bartley (Michelle) Raguso, Rebecca Raguso Synder, Roger (Amy Stewart) Raguso, Joanne (Jill Johnston) Raguso, six grandchildren: Emilie, Anton, Ariel and Aerin Raguso, Adam (Christine) Karaoguz, Kara Karaoguz, and four great-grandchildren. Also, two sisters, Betty Damiani and Vera (William) Farrand, as well as many nieces and nephews. Anthony was born to humble immigrant parents in New Castle, PA. on July 4, 1924. After serving as a surgical technician in a field hospital in Europe during WWII, he returned home and attended Westminster College. After completing his graduate work at the University of Pittsburgh, he advanced from a social worker to the Assistant Administrator at Montifiore Hospital in Pittsburgh. In 1969, he accepted a position as administrator of FF Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua where he served until his retirement in 1986. There was significant growth of the medical services during his tenure. His deep respect for every individual he encountered and his sense of fairness in all of his dealings earned him high regard not only in the medical community but also in the community at large. He was very proud of his accomplishments at Thompson. He loved and cherished more than anything spending time with his family. He was a wonderful supportive father not only to his children but also to his beloved grandchildren. The family would like to acknowledge and thank all of Anthony’s caregivers at The Horizon’s, Thompson Health, and most recently, the VA Hospice Unit. You all made a difficult situation bearable. Calling hours will be held at Fuller Funeral Home, Inc. 190 Buffalo St. Canandaigua from 4-8pm on Friday February 14, 2014. A 10:30 memorial service will be held on Saturday February 15, 2014 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Thompson Health, 350 Parrish Street, Canandaigua, NY 14424.
